Our Story
Toowoomba Haematology & Oncology Clinic was founded on a simple belief: patients should not have to leave their community to access exceptional cancer and blood disorder care.
In 2017, Dr Joel Collins established a specialist haematology practice in Toowoomba with the goal of providing local access to care for patients who would otherwise face significant travel to metropolitan centres for treatment. As the needs of our community grew, so too did the vision for what the clinic could become.
Driven by both a deep personal connection to cancer and a belief that regional patients deserve greater choice in their healthcare, husband-and-wife team Dr Joel Collins and Tegan Parker set out to create a service that would bring leading cancer and blood disorder specialists to the Darling Downs. Their vision was to build a comprehensive, integrated practice that could provide the same level of coordinated, specialist care typically found in metropolitan centres, right here in regional Queensland.
Over the years, that vision has grown into what is now the region’s largest integrated cancer and blood disorder service. Today, THOC brings together haematologists, medical oncologists, palliative care clinicians, nurses and support staff to provide comprehensive care for patients with blood cancers, solid organ cancers and non-cancerous blood disorders across Toowoomba, the Darling Downs, Granite Belt, regional Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
At the heart of THOC is a commitment to ensuring patients can access the highest standard of specialist care while remaining close to home, surrounded by their family, friends and support network. We understand that a cancer or blood disorder diagnosis can be overwhelming, and we believe no patient should have to choose between receiving expert care and remaining connected to the people and community that matter most.
Today, the vision that founded THOC continues to guide everything we do: delivering comprehensive, compassionate and evidence-based care that supports patients from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.
Our Philosophy
At THOC, we believe exceptional patient care begins with exceptional people.
While our patients are always at the centre of everything we do, we recognise that delivering outstanding healthcare requires more than expert clinicians alone. It requires a team of specialists who are supported by experienced nurses, dedicated administrative staff and systems designed to allow them to focus on what matters most – caring for patients.
Our practice has been built around supporting our clinicians to provide the highest standard of care possible. By bringing together experts in haematology, medical oncology and palliative care, and surrounding them with a skilled and compassionate support team, we have created a truly integrated model of care that supports patients throughout every stage of their journey.
This collaborative approach ensures patients receive seamless, multidisciplinary care from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. Whether a patient is undergoing active treatment, managing a chronic blood disorder, transitioning into survivorship, or requiring supportive and symptom management, our team works together closely to provide coordinated care tailored to the individual needs of our patients.
