Fees & Billing Information

At Toowoomba Haematology & Oncology Clinic, our goal is to provide exceptional specialist care with transparency and clarity around fees and billing.
We understand that a cancer or blood disorder diagnosis can already feel overwhelming, and we believe patients should feel fully informed and supported when it comes to the financial aspects of their treatment.

Transparent and Reasonable Fees

Our consultation fees are set below the AMA scheduled fee and reflect the level of specialist care and coordination provided by our team.
Medicare rebates are available with a valid referral and will cover a significant portion of the consultation fee. We offer Medicare online claiming, meaning if your bank details are registered with Medicare, your rebate can be processed electronically at the time of your visit.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) patients are bulk billed.
A pensioner and concession discount is also available.

NO GAP Chemotherapy & Treatment Services

THOC is a participating NO GAP provider with private health funds for chemotherapy and infusion-based treatments.

We do not charge any gap fees for chemotherapy administration or infusion treatments for privately insured patients where coverage applies.

Specifically, our clinicians do not charge gap or management fees for:
  • Chemotherapy administration
  • Infusion treatments
  • Bone marrow biopsy procedures
  • Inpatient specialist visits for admitted privately insured patients
Patients receiving chemotherapy are typically treated as admitted day patients. We encourage patients to check with their private health insurer to ensure they are covered under the relevant item classifications.

Chemotherapy & Haematology Item Numbers

For insurer reference, common item numbers include:
  • Chemotherapy administration – 13950
  • Line insertion / PICC / port care – 14221
  • Blood product transfusion – 13706
  • Venesection – 13757
  • Lumbar puncture (chemotherapy) – 18232
  • Bone marrow aspirate + biopsy – 30084 + 30087

Bone Marrow Biopsy – Uninsured Patients

For patients without private health insurance, the out-of-pocket cost for a bone marrow biopsy is approximately $100.
Patients who wish to have their procedure performed as an admitted day procedure under sedation will incur additional hospital and anaesthetist fees.
Uninsured patients also have the option to have their bone marrow biopsy performed in our procedure room at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (St Andrew’s Hospital, Toowoomba). This option is performed under local anaesthetic only and does not include procedural sedation.
Some patients choose to use a Penthrox inhaler (also known as the “Green Whistle”) for additional pain relief during the procedure. This can be obtained from a pharmacy at an approximate cost of $60 and is not PBS subsidised. Many patients find this provides effective pain relief during the procedure.

Our Commitment

We are committed to providing high-quality specialist care with clear, transparent billing and no unexpected costs.
Where possible, we work within Medicare, private health insurance arrangements and concession eligibility to minimise out-of-pocket expenses while maintaining the highest standard of clinical care.
If you have any questions about fees or coverage, our team is always happy to assist prior to your appointment.
